Abortion and Men
Men are often disregarded when it comes to the abortion issue. They are told- “not your body/not your choice”.
Although empathy and concern for men experiencing a partner’s abortion appears to be in short demand, a recent study shows that men who are post-abortive also suffer. And they seldom can find resources to help them through. Recently I spoke with a gentleman who has been drawn to serve with the ministry of LIFE CHOICES Rowan because of his own challenges with an abortion his girlfriend had over 20 years ago.
The National Men’s Abortion Study, published by the non-partisan organization Support After Abortion, revealed that the most men experience some negative effects from the abortion experience. These include depression and anxiety, and anger issues. Many reported that they have looked for resources but have not been able to locate the help they are looking for.
The politicalization of abortion compounds the issue because it is difficult for men and women to be able to grieve publicly. Post-Abortion Stress Syndrome is real, but society downplays it due to pro-abortion narratives pushed by activists, media, and politicians.
LIFE CHOICES Rowan offers confidential support to women and men who are post-abortive in a non-judgmental, supportive environment. We believe that healing is possible and that men are often a disregarded factor when it comes to the issue of abortion.
